Gardening season's here! Learn
about making and maintaining gardens and lawns
without synthetic pesticides and chemical
fertilizers for the safety and health of both you
and our ecosystem at our April 9 Friends Meeting.
Our guest speaker, Henrietta Light of the Watertown
Citizens for Environmental Safety (WCES) will be
bringing and educational display and a variety of
informative brochures and handouts.
Ms. Light has been involved
with gardens and land care all her life. Before
environmentalism and ecology were in our daily
vocabularies, she learned about the stewardship of
the land from her mother and father, who was a
latter-day Thoreau. As horticulturist at the Lyman
Estate in Waltham, she managed greenhouses and
gardens without pesticides. In her garden design and
consultation business and in her demonstration
garden in Watertown, she puts into practice her
strong concern about the health and environmental
risks of many pesticides.
Ms. Light is active in the
Pesticide Use Reduction and Education Campaign of
the WCES, which is affiliated with the
Wellesley-based Massachusetts Pesticide Awareness
Collaborative.
